Sociological Research Practicum

The Sociological Research Practicum (SRP) used to be large-scale data collection project that provides first-year graduate students with hands-on research experience as well as a chance to use the data for their Master's thesis. For four separate years, I served as a research assistant/associate instructor of the course, mentoring graduate students, teaching them about the project-to-publication pipeline, and guiding their career trajectories. Below is a list of projects I was involved in and a brief description. 

Public Ideas: Their Varieties and Careers (20-24)

PI: Dr. Tim Hallett

Content analysis of academic ideas in public print media

Assisted in developing new coding scheme and analyzing incoming data

Planned and delivered one full-course lecture and mentored Ph.D. students develop research questions and methodology

Survey Experiments of Public Opinion on Social Issues (21-22)

PI: Dr. Brian Powell

Survey experiments of public attitudes

Assisted Ph.D. students in designing survey experiments and analyzing data


Indian American Family Study (22-23)

PI: Dr. Keera Allendorf

Interview study of Indian American Families

Interviewed Indian American respondents and analyzed national datasets

Trained students to conduct effective interviews and led weekly discussion sections
